Introduction

Howdy peeps.

If you're reading this then you probably know already that Gemma and I will be travelling from Delhi to Kathmandu over this year's festive period.

We're hoping that we can update this blog regularly so that you can follow our progress but access to WiFi may be sporadic. We shall see.

As a start here is the itinerary for our trip.

We depart London Heathrow for Istanbul on Saturday 21st December. We're spending an afternoon, night and morning in Istanbul as it made the trip A LOT cheaper and we get to see a bit of the city. We're definitely going to try and see the Blue Mosque and the Grand Bazaar, anything else is a bonus.

Leave Istanbul in the afternoon of Sunday 22nd and fly overnight to Delhi, arriving at about 5am. Hopefully Delhi won't be too manic at this time in the morning meaning we can ease into it. Then the tour proper starts and will run as below;

Day 1 Delhi
Evening visit to India Gate and Connaught Place.
Days 2-3 Jaipur
City tour by local streetkids, a Planeterra-supported project. Travel to the 'Pink City'. Visit to Palace of the Winds and Amber Fort.
Day 4 Agra
Visit to Agra Fort and Taj Mahal by cycle-rickshaw.
Days 5-6 Orchha
Visit to Orchha Palace Complex. Cooking class and lunch with a local family.
Days 7-8 Varanasi
The holy city of Varanasi. Orientation walk and visit the old city. Ganges boat trips at sunrise and sunset.
Day 9 Lumbini
Cross into Nepal and visit the Buddha's birthplace, Lumbini.
Days 10-11 Chitwan National Park
UNESCO World Heritage site. Explore the park by jeep safari.
Days 12-13 Pokhara
Set eyes on the beautiful scenery, including the Annapurna Range, in Pokhara. Take a Sarangkot sunrise excursion.
Day 14 Kathmandu
Drive to Kathmandu. Visit to Swayambhunath, the Monkey Temple, en route.
Day 15 Kathmandu
Optional Everest scenic flight.
We're then spending a couple more nights in Kathmandu to finish the trip off.

And for those that maps here is the trip in picture form;

So, keep an eye on this blog (should you be remotely interested) from the 21st December to follow Gemma and me on our Christmas travels.
